Create your own artwork by transferring your favourite photographs onto a canvas! This DIY is seriously magic. I have no idea how it works but its so clever! I love this technique as you can bring to life your special memories and beautiful photography to decorate your home. And it really is so simple. You will always get an imperfect transfer but this creates a unique shabby chic look to your artwork. It is important you use a photo that has been printed using a laser printer. I have an ordinary ink jet printer at home so I went to my local library and used their printer which only set me back 30p! Also remember the outcome will be the mirror image of the photo used so don't use an image with writing!
To give this a go you will need: Liquidex medium gel, a laser printed photo on ordinary paper, stretched canvas, paintbrush and a cloth or sponge.
Step 1: Coat your canvas with a fairly thick layer of medium gel
Step 2: Stick the photo image side down on the canvas. Gently rub the paper to make sure their are no air bubbles and all the surfaces are stuck to the canvas. Leave to completely dry overnight.
Step 3: Use a damp cloth or sponge to wet the canvas. Rub off the paper with your fingers to reveal your image. Don't be scared to put in a bit of elbow grease to remove the remnants of paper.
Step 4: When your happy the image is clear, use another coat of the medium gel to finish the canvas and protect your print.
I love it! Its worked so well and it reminds me of my family trip to Paris last Easter. Can't wait to give it another go!
Lots of love
